Flew in from Denham. Easy to spot due to the large factory units adjacent to the runway. Avoid all the local villages when landing and departing. Joining details given on initial contact all other positions transmitted blind. Nice welcome. We took fuel (thanks to the fuel chap who was very helpful) and saved ourselves the £10 landing fee. Airfield in very good condition and will visit again as alternative to Leeds/Bradford. Nice cheap (compared to London prices) food and plenty of tea in mugs!

Flew into Sherburn on Saturday 27th as part of Westair's Fly-Out to Beverley. Been three years since I last visited, but Sherburn is as friendly as ever with a great club-house serving good food and drinks. I love the atmosphere here and it seems like a really well organised flying club with great facilities. The hard runway is in top condition and the grass ones looked very good too, (we had to taxy along one due to opposite direction traffic on the taxiway). And for those interested in trains, (my co-pilot was a driver for Virgin trains), we enjoyed watching the class 66s on the adjacent railway lines......!

Dropped in on our way back from Scotland, for fuel and lunch. Grass runway 06 was very good as was the airfield in general. Very friendly and a good cafe/bar. A good choice of runways but make sure you are well briefed on the noise routeings and procedures that apply when RAF Church Fenton is active. Highly recommended.

Stopped off at Sherburn whilst returning north to Eshott. Initially spoke to Church Fenton who were busy with Tucanos as I approached but they were most helpful and soon was speaking to Sherburn. Landed on grass Rwy 24 which had a decent surface despite recent weather. Very friendly welcome, great cafe and UL-91 available. Sherburn is a good stop off / destination with plenty of runway options, a hearty welcome and good food....definitely worth a visit!

Flew in today to drop my daughter with my parents for the week. Very easy to find due to the close proximity of Ferrybridge power station. Hard runway is in very good condition - grass runways out of action due to the great drought of 2012 causing water-logging. Staff in the control tower very friendly & helpful. Used a free landing voucher, but advertised landing fee looks very reasonable. Good food in the cafe, quick service and very reasonable prices. My mother even complimented the staff on the quality / cleanliness of the toilets! The weather station report on their website is also very useful.

Early Jan visit to another old favourite. Nice short trip from Blackpool and good viz and very helpful ATC at Leeds. Usual airfield info from ground at Shernurn and then the familiar silence. cafe is not for dieters and the steak pie and chips affected the weight and balnace on the return leg. Great place to visit.

Visited Sherburn airfield on Saturday for the first time, we flew in from Fairoaks via Doncaster/Sheffield zone which was interesting as a 747 was doing circuits, not your normal machine for circuit bashing on a Saturday morning, and a fraction more expensive than our PA28, however on arrival we found A/G very friendly, along with the very helpful chap who operated the fuel pumps, landing fees are weived if you uplift 30 litres or more. The Club house is very modern and the cafe is excellent value for money. All in all a great place to visit, and the grass run way was excellent as smooth as they get for grass ( or was it the 18th fairway we land on) Well done all at Sherburn, great GA facility.

Visited Sherburn on Wednesday 20 October, inbound from Blackpool. Easy to spot and with a super “hard” runway and taxi-ways as well as three grass runways. The club seems to be very well run and organised and all were very friendly and helpful. A/G especially helpful. The café looked good, but on the day I visited, were just feeding 40 visitors, so I plumped for the excellent parkin (what else in Yorkshire!) and a cup of tea. Well worth a visit.

Great airfield, one of the best. I have flown here since te beginning of my PPL training. Easy to find with big features nearby as well as its own NDB! Plenty of runways means you always have an in to wind runway. Although during wet weeks some of the grass ones can get a bit boggy and its good to have the tarman one as a back up. Lovely restaurant and plenty of parking. Free internet access, great staff, good A/G radio, night flying, plenty of aircraft, the list goes on. Come and visit I am sure you will want to return again and again.

Flew into Sherburn yesterday in C150 G-BUCA. As mentioned previously I found this a very friendly site with good facilities and cafe. Everybody was very friendly right down to the young lad refuelling. Filled up £64 worth so got the landing free. The radio procedure is quite strange at first with a lot of aircraft in the circuit but all pilots made appropriate calls so each pilot knew where the others were.

I definately be visiting again this year.

Visited Sherburn in G-VOID. The airfield is easy to pick up and a quick check with Church Fenton clears MATZ entry on the basis of ‘report visual with the field’. Sherburn itself is a neat and tidy airfield with a nice club house and café. It’s obviously quite a thriving community with a fairly large number of resident aircraft including helicopters. There is one tarmac runway (29) and three good flat grass ones. Watch out for nasty turbulence on short finals onto 29 (tarmac) if the wind is strongly out of the South. Everyone seemed very friendly and the place had a well-run feel to it. However, be prepared for Sherburn radio to answer your initial calls etc but to greet any call of “Finals” or “Ready for Departure” with only a stony silence. It’s apparently how they do it there…

Professional, good food, good service and lots of activity. Be very observant for the local glider field (Burn), and on occasions the very busy traffic. Good food, one of my favourite aeroclubs as a visitor.

Just visited Sherburn In Elmet today and what a superb facility. Really friendly welcome and although we didnt have time for more than a quick coffee the food looked ace. I was right hand seat so had time to enjoy the approach which was from the west and no trouble at all finding the airfield. The whole place seems so well kept and looked after it must be a pleasure to be based there. Will be back very soon. Roy C Blackpool

Sherburn is an excellent airfield and club suitable for use all year round, owing to its four runways. The club is well kept with friendly staff and good services. Most of the members are also fairly decent...other than the disrespectful members who had a moan at the ex-servicemen who were enjoying their exercise provided by the decent guys at Fenton the other week. Shame on you!

I'm Based at sherburn so biased but anyway.... Cracking airfield with excellent facilites. Newly decorated Club house (last year) with a nice bar, comfy leather sofas with tables so you can sit and chat in comfort. There is a nice patio/grass area infront of the clubhouse where the kids can run around and the adults can get some sun and watch the comings and goings on the airfield. The "String Bag" restaurant run by Jill serves excellent food, the Ostrich burger is must. Theres a hard runway so the airfield can be used in wet weather and with 8 runways in total (2 hard and 6 grass) theres usually a runway without a crosswind. Everyone at Sherburn will make you feel completely welcome.

Visited today in our C182. Very friendly reception, very nice airfield, great cafe / bar complete with pool table! Didn't stay for food but good cuppa for us and C182 food was cheaper than Barton.

Easy approach but make sure you get the right airfield as there are two right next door to each other.

Will be back.

Flew in from the south on a clear, CAVOK day. The airfield was very easy to find from this direction because of the line of three power stations that "funnels you in". The airfield is very clean, tidy and obviously well maintained, with a superb clubhouse and cafe (top notch bacon butties!). The whole place seemed very professionally run, and the sign outside the office is worth the visit alone!

Highly recommended. BTW don't let all that noise abatement stuff in the flight guides scare you, it's really no problem because all the NIMBY strongholds are clearly visible and easy to avoid... ; )

I visited on a busy Saturday. i had a little difficulty in locating the field but the local RAF bent over backwards to be of assistance. (The field is within the MATZ). Super friendly people with a very professional attitude.

The bacon butties in the bar were excellent and certainly not over priced. this is a good one to bear in mind for a visit.
