Visited Shipdham on Wednesday 24 July inbound from Sywell and outbound to Seething. I had planned to visit the Mid Norfolk Railway at Dereham. (Outstanding line, immaculate steam locomotives - BR Standard 4MT 2-6-4T 80079 on my visit if you are interested - and well worth a visit for the scenery alone).

The airfield was ‘closed’ on the day I visited, but a call to the number in the AFE (or web site) enabled me to pay the landing fee of £10 by bank transfer. I arranged for a taxi to collect and return me (Ace taxis – very friendly and accommodating), £10 to Dereham and £13.00 back. You may need to walk a little to the main road, through a farm, but on return the taxi just followed the signs to the flying club (road runs alongside the active runway for a short distance) and this takes you to the clubhouse.

Obviously, the clubhouse was closed on my visit, but the runways and parking areas were in superb condition. Looks like a nice place to visit just for the sake of it, but the trip to Dereham and the railway were easy and well worth it in their own right.

Friendly welcome but not a lot going on when we visited and the clubhouse was not geared up for refreshments that day. Very easy to find, the runway is in very good condition and the aproaches are clear, however there is some loose stone on the taxiways near the pumps so a bit of care needed in that area Blind calls on the day we were there but no problems with that. Plenty of noise restrictions so essential to check the briefing info on the website.

Flew into Shipdham on 2nd May 2009. Very friendly club with an excellent, newly resurfaced, runway. Will certainly visit again - many thanks.

Visited Shipdham on Sunday 29th March along with some friends in two other aircraft. Really friendly welcome and nice bacon sarnies, brand new tarmac runway, really nice place would go again. The radio is not always operational so just make blind calls, not a problem.

I visited Shipdham airfield with a friend 23.08.08 and stayed overnight. The airfield was busy with visiting aircraft as it was Shipdhams Air Day / Open Day. We had a great welcome on our arriavl and were provided with hangarage for our motor glider overnight, having flown in from Hinton-in-the-Hedges. When we collected the aircraft the next day, the canopy had been cleaned inside and out! Everyone there was very friendly and willing to assist and there was a good feel about the place. I would certainly recommend a visit at a weekend when the cafe is staffed as the food is pretty good too.

I do not have a bad remark to make about this airfield and the people that run it. Can be difficult to spot from the air but there are plans for resurfacing the runway in the near future which should make it more distinguishable.

An excellent welcome here - have attended "Wallis Days" event there for a number of years, and plan to visit more regularly in the future. Highly recommended.

EGSA Shipdham, one of the many ex WW2 airfields in East Anglia now in use by enthusiastic club members. Most activity, including gliding, at the weekends.
