Pilot reviews of Shotteswell / Church Farm Airfield

“ | Sampled Shotteswell recently; the airfield doesn't really look like an airfield from above - while the runways do look like runways to the trained eye, there aren't any threshold markers/numbers to help! However, with Banbury just to the South and the M42 to the East (and some help from DTY VOR/DME!), it can easily be located. The windsock favored (just!) a northwesterly landing, so runway 33 it was!
The runway is well maintained and its surface very smooth, so 700m was plenty. Taxi to the hangars is via runway 07, the short one! Was welcomed by a local pilot taking his Czech microlight out for the afternoon, and he confirmed it Was indeed Shotteswell! Otherwise, the airfield was deserted.
On take-off, runway 33 was used again; there is a dumbell to one side of the threshold - very practical to wait for an inbound to land! I would recommend using 15/33 unless the wind was extreme - 07/25 at 350m or so, is and looks awfully short, with an upslope to the West!
