    In brief...

12 Jun 10: Skegness Aero Club has Lightning

Skegness Aero Club have recently taken delivery of former Binbrook based English Electric Lightning T.mk5 XV456, which was formerly a gate guardian at Elms Golf Course Wainfleet Lincs (of all places) Currently sat at the Northern end of Runway 11, she is minus her wings and tail which were removed for transportation. Our plans are to have her mounted on plinths near to the control hut/office. Unfortunately this will not be completed until after the June fly in but she is already attracting a lot of attention from visiting pilots & the public alike. I have attached a pic of her in her former home, taken last year. More pics to be found on our Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=114470974335

6 Jul 18 - Stephen Nuttall - 0.5 NM North of Inskip VRP - Fly from Blackpool

Flew into Skegness in our DR400 on Wednesday 4 July to take the greyhounds to meet some of their friends on holiday at Butlin’s across the road. The grass strip is on the edge of a caravan/camping/water-park site and was very easy to spot and is exceptionally well maintained with one of the smoothest grass strips I have been on for a while. There was no one present on our arrival (we had ‘PPR’d’ the previous Sunday) and we just made blind calls. The landing fee was paid at the campsite office and at £7.00 was a snip! There is a pub/café on site where we met our friends and which did decent food and coffee at a reasonable price.

Well worth a visit and, from previous visits, ‘Skeggy’ is about an hour’s walk away if you fancy a stroll. Airfield parking was on grass and had plenty of space. No fuel available on site and that made the trip from Blackpool pretty much at our maximum return range, but if this was an issue, several airfields (Wickenby, North Coates, and Humberside) are close by.

Nice trip to a nice airfield which is well kept and inexpensive.
