Pilot reviews of St Merryn Airfield
“ | Flew in after previously arranging a very easy email PPR. It was a rushed visit to check out for future flights and I dropped in from Newquay, just a 7 minute flight away including positioning and low pass/circuit to check the surface.
The surface has lots of clumps of grass on it, but no potholes and very few loose stones - it was much better than it looked (as clearly briefed by the owner). Located in a very quiet and beautiful location, worth a visit for a walk, but not a lot else else at the airfield other than history and wonderful views.
NB - The airfield is on the crown of a hill, so you cannot see the end of the runway when you start your roll, so be aware.
In a Robin DR400, no problem with the condition or length of runways, but I would suggest that this is a destination for a walk or picnic rather than anything else. I would love to go back with the greyhounds and walk around the countryside.
Very friendly owners and a very good briefing. Landing fee is a donation and people like this deserve our support. A lovely airfield which deserves more visitors. ” |
