Pilot reviews of St Michaels Airfield
Flew into St. Michael’s on Sunday 6 September in our Robin DR400-140B, to leave the aircraft available for flights on 7 & 8 September. St. Michael’s is only a mile from my home (as opposed to our base at Blackpool Airport which is 15 miles away). The field is mainly for microlights and the longest runway is 450m, but with 10 foot high earth banks at the end of each runway. It was fine for the Robin, but I wouldn’t like to have to use any shorter runways: the microlight flyers were getting off in well under 100m! The owner and users could not have been friendlier. On arrival, a couple of the pilots opened up the small clubhouse and put the kettle on. Facilities are basic but there is are very clean loos available and you are on the doorstep of some lovely walks. £5/ landing fee includes as many landings and take-offs as you can do in a day and no charge for overnight parking. Recommended as a stop of for STOL aircraft.
