Great airfield. PPR call a must to Russel. Very warm welcome and a great working WW1 museum .Lots of dedicated volunteers very happy to show us around and interesting aircraft in hangar.Great afternoon. call Southend or stay low and miss controlled airspace.

Went to the New Years Day Fly-in. PPR essential. Straight forward to locate, with Southend, in my experience, helpful as usual. The runway was muddy, but acceptable, even after the torrential overnight rain.

The basic cafe served teas, coffee etc, plus, if pre-ordered, an all day breakfast. The museum and hangers are interesting, however the weather dictated we depart sooner than we would have liked so definitely going to return.

What a great airfield! Flying stuff first: easy to spot, good approaches and the field is in great condition. i was advised that 02 / 20 is the normal runway in use. Circuits are all to the west. I was advised overhead join at 1000' on the QFE and circuits at 700' but you need to call PPR to check in any case. landing fee was £10. all calls blind on Safetycom Airfield stuff: now owned by a Trust, Stow Maries is being renovated to preserve and make use of the buildings that have amazingly survived since the first world war. There is an interesting museum and a cafe serving teas, coffee and cake plus a little gift shop. We got given a guided tour when we flew in and I think that this is normally available on Sundays but worht checking first They also have some fly ins but apparently these get heavily booked Definitely going back

What a little gem! We were part of an RV flyin and were treated like special guests. A fine introduction lecture, BBQ then guided tour of the airfield. The enthusiasm of the two speakers was genuine and full of interest. The long term plans sounds very interesting. Highly recommended.
