Pilot reviews of Strathallan Airfield
Flew to Strathallan on Wednesday 23rd July from Perth. What a friendly and very pretty airfield it is. It was an evening flight and when we spoke to them on the phone earlier in the day, we were advised to make blind calls and that a tractor would be working the field when we arrived but would remain clear of the runway. Well, that is exactly what happened and once we had landed, the driver then came over and had a chat with us, followed soon afterwards by the wife of the owner who offered access to the loos and water for the dogs. On top of all this, they refused to take and money for the landing fee. 5/5 for friendliness doesn’t reflect just how friendly and helpful they are.
The location was lovely and we had a very relaxing picnic looking at the lovely scenery. I just wish it were closer to our home base at Blackpool!
|“||Tucked away beyond the mountains north of Edinburgh, once I found the airfield I received a lovely reception from the people I met who refused to charge me landing fee. Helpful and very friendly.|
600m grass runway with a very casual air/ground radio depending on whether the guy with the walkie-talkie is on air.
Just note that there's parachute activity going on, so call up first.
