“ | Flew into Tatenhill airfield couple of weeks ago. Great friendly airfield. A/G was excellent and very helpful.
The staff were very accommodating when I ask if I could leave after airfield closed.
Will be back for a another visit soon!! ” |
“ | Flew into Tatenhill on Saturday 28 August on the first leg of Westair’s fly-out to White Waltham. It’s been a few years since I visited Tatenhill and I really don’t know why! It’s a lovely airfield, easy to find, well-surfaced and well marked runway, with friendly staff, GREAT bacon butties (surely the real benchmark for most pilots…..!) and fuel available, should you want it.
Well worth a visit – recommended.

“ | Nice fly into Tatenhill, very nice airfield. Managed to go to lunch not far away from the airfield. Staff where friendly midweek and I will be returning. ” |
“ | Limited A/G service & catering but otherwise OK. ” |
“ | Visited Tatenhil yesterday (13th July 08 ) Nice GA airfield. radio was adequate and warned everyone that the gliding airfield just to the southwest was active.
Lake nearby makes it easy to find.
Good little cafe manned by a very friendly lady. Tea only but sandwiches were advertised.
Nice sunny day so made use of outdoor benches in the sun and watched quite a few aircraft coming and going. Easy trip back to Blackpool of about 50 minutes via the low level route.
Will visit again.

“ | Great little airfield. One of my regular visits for the canteen alone which does good sandwiches and cakes. Everyone seems very friendly and you get the feeling that visitors are wanted. There is even a nice chap who helps you fuel your aeroplane. the runway is in good condition provided you stick to the resurfaced areas. I don't pay so can't comment on landing fees. Always had good a/g service here but as to where the briefing facilities are ? ” |
“ | went to Tatenhill yesterday to drop plane off, seamed friendly enough helpfull on the phone. not much help on the radio and when on radio not in the tower in an office so not visable with circuit or run way. so not much help. just run way and QNH QFE. the parking at the intersection was poor as lots of loose stones etc so be carefull. fuel there and landings a £10. fuel pump by the hanger and the office at the 26 end of the runway.
very GA ” |
“ | ESFC at Tatenhill have a varied program of events throughout the year. On Friday evening 14th July we had the opportunity to experience unpowered flight at Needwood Gliding Club.
I don't know whether anyone else has tried it but I was very impressed. They are only allowed to use a winch launch at this site but the rate of climb on take off was staggering compared to a normal Cessna or Piper and the visibility was also much better. I don't intend to take it up but I would recommend any pilot to try it. ” |
“ | Have visited Tatenhill twice now, both times on a weekend. Good place to visit, with a Great Breakfast (thanks Margaret!!) and most welcoming on both occasions.
One thing to watch is the parking area behind the pumps / hangar..... Can get very wet and boggy. We got a bit stuck in our PA28 and had to man handle her out. Guess it goes without saying, but plan your way in, Tatenhill is 400' up and the change from QNH to advisory QFE is interesting, having gone with an inexperienced pilot to get his hours up and visit "fields afresh" if you don't adjust in time, your circuit could be a bit low ;-) ” |
“ | Visited Tatenhill late in the evening a few weeks ago, (with PPR) didn't expect anyone to be there but when we found the Cafe it was open, 7pm and we were made most welcome! definatly worthy of another visit in the near futue.

“ | Visited Tatenhill on the 31/5/04 for the first time. What a fab place! Despite the lack of presence in the tower, and a rather stupid low level flypast by a resident aircraft, I found the whole experience extremely groovy. The cafe was excellent and the help from the ops manager patient and welcoming.
I shall be back! ” |
“ | Flew to Tatenhill from Nottingham on Saturday 24-04-04, friendly and professional on the RT, very easy to find, good surface runway, and a very nice sandwich from Margaret, look forward to the next visit ” |
“ | I flew into Tatenhill for the first time on 30th May 2003 having flown past, around and over on numerous occasions.
The Radio service was efficient and friendly, and the runway obviously fairly well looked after. On the ground the facilities are just the ticket with vending machines for drinks and vittles, and a kettle with tea and coffee etc if you fancy making your own brew. The staff made the day, two extremely charming and helpful ladies even though I was told to make my own tea! I would recommend you to pop in even if it's only to chat to the ladies.... G-RENO ” |
“ | A very friendly airfield perfect for a re-fueling stop when heading north. Soon to be re-developed as it is close to the site of the new National Football training facility. £7 landing fee for a PA28 ” |
