    11 Dec 17 - Graeme Craven - Sevenoaks

A December visit before the end of the 2017 flying season was in order. PPR obtained on a Saturday for a right hand circuit for 25. Was asked to descend to 1,500 ft AGL on the crosswind leg (keeping above the helicopter activity operating on the south west side of the airfield) before going into the circuit. Plenty of hard parking on the main apron (Having landed & run to the end of 25 : turn left). Fuel located at the far left side of the main apron toward the perimeter (racing) track i.e. SW corner of the airfield beyond the parked aircraft. On track days the airfield is closed to aviation. For 2018 provisional racing dates are : 19-20 May; 2-3 June; 7-8 July; 3-5 Aug; 18-19 Aug & 1-2 Sept. There is no deadside at Thruxton as ATC reminded us and as the Western Air website mentions. No too busy although other aircraft were making downwind joins. Local pilots and ATC did a nice job of helping with separation and we were even able to backtrack on the main runway rather than using the grass taxiway. The Jackaroo cafe is good for a full English (located at the base of the control tower) accessed from the parking via a brown rusty gate and a tunnel going under the motor racing circuit. £ 12 for an SEP and a very warm welcome. Nice place.
