Pilot reviews of Thurrock Airfield

Richard Beath - Bath
“ | I get my cherokee six maintained at Thurrock, alhtough I live near Bath, and am well satisfied with the work done and its value for money. Its always an interesting place to visit. They are currently helping to build a 80% Spitfire. There is also a professional propeller workshop there for VP and other props, which is fast getting a good reputation nationally. Taxiways can get water logged but strip itself is very flat and well drained and great for length. ” |

“ | The strip appears short from the air but you always seem to have loads of room left after landing. The condition of the runway and taxiways is alway superb all year round. Not always obvious where to park but there lads from General Aero Services who run run the maintenance hangar and oversee the airfield are very friendly and helpful and they will point you in the right direction. You will be able to use the loo and self-service tea facilities, all as nicely kept as the rest of the airfield. Nowhere to walk to or visit as far as I can tell. The maintenance team here are probably the best in the UK and it's very clear how much pride they take in their work. If you own a metal aircraft it would be worth travelling to have it maintained here. I do! ” |

“ | Runway and taxi / parking areas in excellent condition with clear apporaches to the airfield.
Not realy much in the way of visitors facilties but was made welocme and offered the use of the team making facilities.
There is a maintenance company based at the airfield
You will need to call for PPR, use safety com frequency for blind calls and follow noise abatement procedures ” |
