“ | This is an additional review of Wadswick strip, where my aircraft is based. Apart from the strip itself which is 740 metres of very flat well drained grass, there is a farm shop which has one of the largst riding shops in it. It also has a good food and snack place which is open usually 9 to 4.30 each day, and this is very good for visiting pilots and the food is always well presented and often home made. Just to let you know also that the landing fee of £10 is made as a donation to the Wiltshire Air Ambulance at the counter in the shop. ” |
“ | Dear friends
I am one of the aircraft owners at Wadswick. The strip has always been very well drained and is very flat compared to Compton or Sarum. I have my aircraft outside nearest the farm shop. Now that Lyneham have closed down. Its only Bristol who are mildly interested in movements out to the West. The strip is 740 metres. I pay an annual fee for parking and don't pay any landing fees. I get fuel from Middle Wollop as a member of the AFA and / or Oaksey (12 minutes flying away). ” |
“ | A relatively level farm strip of over 600m fairly close to Colerne ATZ. Nothing going on aviation wise when I visited midweek but there are a fair few aircraft based at the strip. At £10 it's not the cheapest place to visit given the lack of aviation facilities but the money does go to a worthy cause in the Air Ambulance. Friendly greeting from the staff in the country store where I filled in the movements log. Didn't visit the cafe but have heard good things, I'll fly in for lunch in future. ” |
“ | I flew into Wadswick Farm so that I could go and look at a horse I was considering buying nearby.
Lyneham were very friendly and routed me through their Class D (It was the weekend) The airfield was in good condition with short grass and a windsock! I paid a voluntary donation of £10 in the tack shop and feed merchants, where they also had a booking in / out system. Everyone I met was very friendly.
As far as I remember there are no facilities other than the tack shop. Certainly there was no fuel or planning facilities. However being able to fly there saved me around a 4hr trip in the car! ” |
