Wickenby Aerodrome (EGNW)

Submitted by: Maureen Browning

Hello

I believe the Tiger Moth G-AOHY, which is based at Wickenby, is the exact aircraft in which I did my private pilot training on and my first solo! It was then based at the Midland Aero Club at Birmingham Airport.

I do hope you managed to put my beloved Tiger together again and I would love to meet up sometime.

Maureen

    In brief...

14 Feb 10: New café owners

    Ray Fearnley - Lincoln

Wickenby now has new café owners and the name of the café / Bistro is "Hangaround Café / Bistro run by Lynne Bradshaw. The café / Bistro is open 7 days a week and offers an excellent menu.

13 Apr 09: Flt Lt Jack Curry

I can find no mention on your web site of a famous bomber pilot that flew in Lancasters based at Wickenby in 1943. His rank and name was Flt Lt Jack Curry. DFC who completed a full tour of 30 operations whilst a member of No.12 Squadron. Jack wrote a best seller book after the war that was given the title of "Lancaster Target" which became a best seller and realy put Wickenby on the map.

Flew in on Bank Holiday Monday, from Biggin Hill. RAF controllers as helpful as ever.

The Cafe is now open 7 days a week. The museum is well worth a visit. FOC with donations welcome.
