    In brief...

28 Feb 09: Contact near Wombleton

    Gary Edgar - Wombleton
Wombleton airfield is on the edge of the village where a bus service is available to nearby towns.

The area is beautiful and fairtrade / organic coffees and teas are available at McConnell Thomas in nearby Hovingham and Kirkbymoorside. E-mail me in advance and I will advise of possible holiday accommodation availability and transport in the area. If I am available, I might even be able to pick you up - I live in Wombleton.

Flew into Wombleton this afternoon. No A/G, and so we made "blind calls" on safetycom. Runway 28 / 10 appears to be a former taxi way. It is quite narrow and to the south of the main WW2 field, but the surface is good. There was a large spacious hangar adjacent with numerous interesting aircraft being kept "in luxury". We were made to feel very welcome by the local pilots. There is no club, and hence no GA facilities, but we were not charged a landing fee either. Definitely worth a visit for the beautiful scenery, and apparently the famous Star Inn at Harome (Michelin starred) is only a short walk away across the fields.
