Discussion: "Day Out via GA Recommendations"
1. Wed 30 Mar Marcus Dodsworth - Lowestoft
Hello Forum,
Trying to plan a day out for visiting relative from Sweden. Super keen on GA and wold like to fly somewhere. I'm looking for recommendations of any awesome experiences that can be done on a weekday in the vicinity of any UK airfield. Departing Piper Archer from Norwich or Beccles, want to visit somewhere within a couple of hours ideally. Ideas so far - East Kirby and do the Lancaster Taxy Ride experience, or Fairoaks and take a taxy to Mercedes Benz World, maybe fly to Duxford and do the Dragon Rapide London tour etc. Would love to hear any top recommendations from the wonderful GA community on UKGA. Cheers.

Duxford is a great day out. You will need a full day to see all the aircraft there. I have flown into East Kirkby a couple of times and again it was a great experience to hear the roar of the four Merlin engines from a few metres away. Old Buckenham is not far from Norwich and has a few old guns etc. from its days as a USAF base in WW2. There are some interesting aircraft in the hangar including a Piper Cub in USAF colours, which is owned by an actor called Martin Shaw. Another good air museum is the Yorkshire Air Museum, at Elvington near York, but that is a little further to fly to.
I'm sure some others can recommend some more great places.

If you visit Elvington, stop in at Sherburn and see the 2 tiger moths. Maybe even go for a flight in one too. Also the cafe is good.
