CAA announces plans for future GA pilot safety promotion material

The UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has announced plans to update the way it provides safety promotion material to UK recreational pilots. The proposals will see the CAA potentially working with the specialist aviation media to use a variety of methods to provide high quality information to pilots.

WWII-era Spitfires to be excavated in Burma later this month

A project to excavate dozens of Spitfires buried in Burma during World War II is set to begin at the end of October. Up to 60 of the iconic single-seat aircraft are believed to have been purposely hidden by British forces almost 70 years ago -- greased and wrapped, then buried underground, unassembled in transport crates -- to prevent them falling into Japanese hands.

Fifteen-year-old Alex Harris became the UK’s youngest ever solo glider pilot when he took to the air at Essex Gliding Club at 13:00 on 10th October 2012 -- just three days after new rules, dropping the solo age from 16 to 14, were ratified by the British Gliding Association’s Executive Committee.
