Hot air balloon pilot fined £2,000 for forging medical certificates

A self-employed hot air balloon pilot has been successfully prosecuted by the CAA after it was discovered his aviation medical certificate had been forged. He was fined £2,000 and ordered to pay legal costs.

AAIB findings cast doubt on Shoreham Hunter’s legal airworthiness status

In a Special Bulletin published on 21 December, the Air Accidents Investigation Branch highlighted issues with the use of time-expired ejection seat cartridges in the Hawker Hunter that crashed during the Shoreham airshow - as well as other similar aircraft operated by civilian organisations - and reported that the maintenance organisation responsible for the accident aircraft did not have in place a formal Alternative Means of Compliance for continued airworthiness of its Rolls-Royce Avon 122 engine that had been agreed with the CAA.

British Junior Gliding Team triumph in Australia

Tom Arscott (23), a pilot at Lasham Gliding and an engineering student in his final year at Imperial College, has won gold in the Club Class at the World Junior Gliding Championships which have just finished at Norromine, New South Wales. His team mate Sam Roddie (25) from Yorkshire finished in the bronze medal position.
