Pembrey runway extension on schedule
Work on Pembrey airport's runway extension is progressing on schedule, to coincide with the opening of the nearby Horse Racing Course in 2009.
Pembrey is a privately-owned commercial airport in West Wales that has invested £3.5 million in its facilities to date. This includes a passenger terminal with check-in area and restaurant, extensive passenger parking, and aircraft hangars and hard-standing.
Air Charter Companies have already chosen Pembrey to provide the facilities for at least 14+ executive jets carrying golf’s elite to the world-famous Ryder Cup 2010. And it looks as though international racing professionals and fans will also be making a beeline to Pembrey in 2009 when nearby Ffos Las, the U.K’s first new National Hunt racecourse in 80 years, opens its doors for the first time. Ffos Las, which is located close to Pembrey, is a multi-million dollar complex set to offer residential, hospitality and commercial developments, plus an equestrian centre, racing school and equine training establishments.
Despite the current economic downtown, Pembrey's Managing Director Winston Thomas remains quietly confident: “As London-area airport expansions get increasingly bogged down, the smart money is going to move to regional facilities like Pembrey, that have the support of both local and national authorities, can handle traffic from both the UK and Europe, and plenty of room for future growth.”
